The Active Adult Lives Report measures the levels of sporting and physical activity of adults in England (16 yrs+). The most recent report (May 2018/2019) recorded its highest levels of activity, with the total number of people engaged in at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week at 28.6 million. This is an increase of 1,015,700 compared to when the survey started in 2015. Furthermore, the gender gap continues to narrow and there is a growth in activity amongst disabled adults and those with long term health conditions.

Despite the overall increase in activity, the report does point to inequalities in terms of participation when it comes to gender, ethnicity and disability. Men (65%) are more likely to be active than women (61%), with a gap of 313,600 between them. Activity levels are highest for Mixed ethnicity (71%) and White Other (66%) adults, and lowest for Asian (excluding Chinese) (56%) and Black (57%) adults. Inactivity is more common for those with a disability or long term health condition (41%) than those without (20%). There is still a lot more to be done to encourage participation in sport and physical activity and ensure there are opportunities for all.
